DMC Orthopaedic Residency Program Events
Orthopaedic Grand Rounds
Every Wednesday: 7AM – 9AM
Lectures designed to provide current evidence based recommendations on orthopaedic conditions and techniques. May include outside lecturers, as well as our current faculty. After 9AM, typically resident presentations and question sessions occur in a protected time setting.
Morbidity and Mortality Conferences:
Monthly: 7:00 a.m.
All cases of mortality are presented. Any morbidities may be presented. This forum provides a critical evaluation of complications and invites our colleagues to criticize rather aggressively. The purpose of the M&M Conference is to provide a safe venue for residents to identify areas of improvement, and promote professionalism, ethical integrity and transparency in assessing and improving patient care. The M&M Conference also provides a forum to teach curriculum on quality improvement and medico legal issues to residents and students and to foster a climate of openness and discussion about medical errors.
Sports Journal Club:
Second Thursday of Every Month, 7:00 p.m.
Attendance is required by every resident with exceptions made only for emergencies and in-house call. Faculty attendance typically is a minimum of four, and occasionally up to six. Discussion of the journal articles includes their content and methodology. A large portion of the discussion is devoted to learning how to interpret statistical results.
General Orthopaedics Journal Club:
Third Thursday of month, 7:00 p.m.
Eight residents present recently-published journal articles relevant to orthopaedic surgery practices. Attendance is required by every resident with exceptions made for emergencies and in-house call. Faculty attendance typically is a minimum of six, and occasionally up to ten.
